Islamic Marriage (Nikkah)
Islamic Marriage (Nikkah)
The holy prophet (saw.) said:
النِّكَاحُ مِنْ سُنَّتِي فَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ بِسُنَّتِي فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي
“The nikkah (Islamic wedding ceremony) is part of my sunnah and whoever does not observe my sunnah has nothing to do with me.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith No. 1846)
Marriage in Islam is a contract between a man and a woman. Consent from both sides is generally required. At the wedding, the bride receives a dowry (mahr) from her husband.
Marriage in the mosque according to Islamic law has not yet been recognized by the authorities in Germany. For this we refer to the registry office (Standesamt) in Munich.
