Eid prayer We will announce the time and place in good time

The dates are calculated with the Umm al-Qura calendar and may shift by one day after the moon sighting. We announce the actual day in the mosque and on our channels.

The Eid prayer

  • According to the Hanafi school the Eid prayer is wajib for men for whom the Friday prayer is obligatory. Women and children are very welcome.
  • It has two rakʿat, without adhan or iqama. The sermon follows after the prayer.
  • In the first rakʿa, after the opening supplication, the imam says “Allahu Akbar” three extra times. Each time you raise your hands to your ears and then let them hang at your sides. After the third you fold your hands again.
  • In the second rakʿa the three extra “Allahu Akbar” come after the recitation and before bowing. At the fourth “Allahu Akbar” you bow without raising your hands.

Sunna on the day of Eid

  • Take a full bath (ghusl) before the prayer
  • Wear your best clothes and use perfume (men)
  • On Eid al-Fitr eat something sweet before the prayer, ideally an odd number of dates
  • On Eid al-Adha eat only after the prayer
  • Say the takbir on the way to the prayer, quietly on Eid al-Fitr, aloud on Eid al-Adha
  • Return by a different way than you came
  • Give zakat al-fitr before the prayer

Takbir al-tashriq

According to the Hanafi school every adult says the takbir once after every obligatory prayer from Fajr on the day of Arafah until Asr on the fourth day of Eid.

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd

Allah is greater, Allah is greater. There is no god but Allah. Allah is greater, Allah is greater, and to Allah belongs all praise.

Fasting on the day of Arafah is a great sunna for those not on Hajj.

Qurbani

  • According to the Hanafi school the sacrifice (qurbani) is wajib for every adult resident Muslim who owns the nisab.
  • The sacrifice takes place after the Eid prayer on the first to third day of Eid.
  • A sheep or goat counts for one person, up to seven people can share a cow or camel.
  • It is recommended to divide the meat into thirds, for your family, for relatives and friends and for people in need.
