Last ten nights

Calculated for Munich with the Muslim World League method (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°). Finish sahur a few minutes before the time shown. The timetable displayed in the mosque applies.

What applies when fasting

Where the schools of law differ, for example on drops and injections, we follow the Hanafi school.

What breaks the fast

  • Eating and drinking on purpose, including swallowed medicine
  • Smoking and inhaling vapour or smoke
  • Sexual intercourse, which also requires expiation (kaffara)
  • Vomiting a mouthful on purpose
  • Nose drops and ear drops that enter the body

What does not break the fast

  • Eating or drinking by mistake when you forgot you were fasting
  • Vomiting unintentionally
  • Eye drops and showering
  • Blood tests and injections into muscle or skin
  • Brushing teeth without swallowing, it is better without toothpaste

Who does not have to fast

  • The sick for whom fasting is harmful, they make up the days
  • Travellers, they make up the days
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women who fear for themselves or the child, they make up the days
  • Women during menstruation and postnatal bleeding, they make up the days
  • Whoever can never fast, for example due to old age, gives fidya instead. Please speak to our imam about this.

Make the intention for the Ramadan fast in your heart, ideally at night. According to the Hanafi school it is still valid for Ramadan until before midday if you have eaten nothing since Fajr.

Whoever deliberately breaks a Ramadan fast without excuse by eating, drinking or intercourse makes up the day and, as expiation, must fast 60 days without interruption.

Taraweeh and iʿtikaf

After the Isha prayer we pray taraweeh together. According to the Hanafi school it has 20 rakʿat and is an emphasised sunna.

In the last ten days iʿtikaf in the mosque is sunna. If you would like to take part, please speak to our imam beforehand.

Zakat al-Fitr

According to the Hanafi school zakat al-fitr is wajib for every Muslim who owns the nisab, for themselves and their minor children. It is given before the Eid prayer so that people in need can celebrate too. We announce this year’s amount in good time.
